Prisons Project
LSC has undertaken prison reform and undertrial justice initiatives through collaborations with The Justice Initiative and Prisons Forum Karnataka, focusing on identifying systemic gaps through research, RTIs, and on-ground engagement with prisons. The work includes studying the functioning of the Under-Trial Review Committee and facilitating legal representation for women undertrial prisoners at Bangalore Central Prison to improve access to justice and accountability within the prison system.

The Justice Initiative
LSC collaborated with The Justice Initiative, an organisation that works on prison reform and prisoner rehabilitation. The project was geared towards addressing the gaps and inequalities in the prison system. LSC assisted the TJI in collecting information relating to gaps in the Prison Statistics of India Report through RTIs and other measures, so as to demand greater transparency and accountability on part of the authorities. The team also attended workshops held in prisons across Karnataka, and will be involved in more on-ground work as the opportunity arises
Prisons Forum, Karnataka
LSC collaborated with Prisons Forum, Karnataka to carry out research on the functioning of the Under-Trial Review Committee in Karnataka. Students researching on the mandate and standard operating procedures of UTRC in Karnataka and prepared RTI documents to be filed in the relevant department in order to assess the functioning of the committ
Mr. B. T. Venkatesh
Under the guidance of Mr. Venkatesh, LSC provided legal representation to women under trial prisoners at the Central Prison, Bangalore. Set up a panel of lawyers who would represent these under trials who had been languishing in the prison without any legal representation. Members of LSC visited the Bangalore Central Prison in July 2018 to collect data on the status of undertrial prisoners.
