Gig Worker's
Project

Gig Workers’ Project aimed at assessing the landscape of the ‘platform work’ industry, to recommend targeted legislative interventions in the same. Tp gauge the impact of the pandemic on gig workers, members of the committee spoke to gig workers over the course of 10 days. The objective of collecting this data was to attain an understanding of the delivery partner’s side of the process - their projected and actual earnings, number of hours and trips their work involves on a day-to-day basis, risks involved in their work, and other similar details. The data collected was supplied to the Center for Labour Studies and is expected to inform the conclusions of their project
The project involved working on handbooks related to the POCSO Act and Child Welfare Committees. These will act as reference books for judges of Special Courts and reckoner for CWCs and trainers respectively. Volunteers from within LSC made scripts for plays on child rights in order to further sensitisation and legal awareness amongst children, their families and other stakeholders. LSC has also begun undertaking cases referred to us by Enfold related to child rights, and members have received sensitisation training in order to be better equipped to handle the same

Digital Constitutionalism
[Project
Aristotle]
Student volunteers prepared country reports for five countries - USA, South Africa, India, New Zealand and Denmark. Broadly the researchers looked at the following aspects - digital constitutionalism and internet governance, the state of human and constitutionally guaranteed rights, privacy, information security, personal data and intermediary regulations. This project was aimed at increasing legal awareness on issues related to digital rights, governance and constitutionalism. The final reports are now available online and have been circulated amongst various stakeholder
LSC members prepared research notes regarding death penalty in foreign jurisdictions, and international standards regarding death penalty. The student volunteers researched on substantive laws, procedures, standard for awarding death penalty, judicial, appeal, and clemency processes, and treatment of foreign nationals in death penalty cases in various jurisdictions

Bangalore International Mediation, Arbitration and Conciliation Centre
(BIMACC)
LSC collaborated with BIMACC to promote legal awareness about alternate dispute
resolution methods in India. NLSIU students, under the aegis of LSC, authored blog-posts on the A-Z of alternate dispute resolution on topics ranging from jurisdiction in arbitration to the skills required in mediation to the process of negotiation
LSC collaborated with LabourNet and contacted upwards of 2000 migrant workers to
gather details of their current location, employment status and overall well being. Around 300 workers were found to be in dire need of jobs and they were connected to officials at LabourNet who avowed to assist them in their job search and additionally provide employment if possible.

Adecco, in partnership with LSC came together to write a number of informative short pieces on workers’ rights, reproductive rights, rights of women in custody, alternative dispute resolution, procedure in filing FIR and other criminal processes, child labour and family law. In particular, the topics that were written on include:
