Criminal Codes Reform Project
-
In May 2020, in a new report, it was announced that a committee for criminal reform was to be constituted.
-
Considering the wide ranging impact a change in criminal laws would have, and the unrepresentative nature of the committee and the opacity in its functioning, LSC drafted the first student-led petition to oppose this manner of reform.
-
More than 600 people signed the petition across universities.
-
Apart from just opposing the reform, LSc also engaged substantively with the committee in the first round of consultations.
-
Currently, the committee is deliberating the responses received from various stakeholders.
