Centre for Child And the Law
The Centre for Child and the Law (CCL) was established as a specialized multi-disciplinary research centre of NLSIU on April 1, 1996. The Centre integrates research, direct field action, and teaching on child rights law. We use law and socio-legal strategies as tools for transformative social change to enable children to live with dignity. Our aim is to ensure social justice, human rights and quality of life for all children in India, with special focus on equitable quality education, care, protection and justice for marginalized and excluded children

Child Protection Manual
Prepared a manual in collaboration with CCL. This is a ready reckoner for all practitioners in the field of child rights - from JJB members to Commissions for Protection of Child Rights across States.
Observation Home Visits
Provided legal assistance to boys in observation homes in relation to their cases and sensitised them on issues such as their right to bail and legal representation.
Researched for cases, wrote scripts for plays to spread awareness, and translated of documents. Prepared posters to spread awareness amongst juveniles, their families, OH staff, and police personnels in the Special Juvenile Justice Unit.

Research
National Food Security Act Draft Rules [Ongoing]
Collaborated with CCL in drafting Model NFSA rules for states. Filed RTIs for every State and Union Territory in India and to prepare a consolidated report of NFSA Compliance by the concerned State authorities and attended CCLs conference held to review the draft Model rules. Currently working on drafting rules for Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.​
Gaps in Key Legislations:
Research project aimed at identifying and suggesting resolutions for gaps in key legislations affecting child rights such as the NFSA, POCSO and the JJ Act among others.
Social Investigation Report and Assistance to the JJ Board
Examined the availability and translation of Social Investigation Report (SIR) forms in regional languages, investigated the status of welfare schools in Karnataka, and created a one-page explainer on the stages at which SIRs are sought in Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) proceedings. Also developed a psychological and legal explanation on treating Children in Conflict with Law (CICL) differently from accused individuals
Researched case laws on juvenile detention in adult prisons and the non-production of children by police before the board, providing assistance to CCL lawyers. Extracted data concerning the date of filing of FIRs from around 600 FIRs and made calls to the concerned police stations to enquire about the date of completion and filing of chargesheets, all of which form part of a larger pendency study on the delay in JJ system.​

Roadmap for Infrastructure in Government Schools
Researched and drafted a roadmap for infrastructure facilities in government schools in the state. The research submitted was on norms pertaining to right to education, infrastructure facilities for special groups (including girls and students with disabilities), mid-day meal schemes, and other good practices in school infrastructure.
