Panel Discussion on Labour Reform in Contemporary India

About BLF

Bangalore Legal Forum is a monthly series of Panel Discussions hosted at the Bangalore International Centre by various law schools across the Bengaluru Metropolitan Area. They include:

1. Manipal Law School, Manipal University.

2. National Law School of India University (via the Legal Services Clinic).

3. St. Joseph's College of Law.

4. School of Law, Christ University.

 

The panel discussions are geared toward fostering legal knowledge sharing and collaboration between Bangalore's legal education institutions and industry, improving public legal awareness and access to thoughtful legal discourse, and creating a collaborative legal community across the city. 

The inaugural session was a panel discussion on "Free Speech and Internet Regulation in India" with Dr. Sarayu Natarajan, Mr. Pranesh Prakash, Mr. Prateek Waghre and Mr. Sachin S. held on 23 April 2025.

 

The second session was hosted on the topic "To Modify or Not: The Conundrum of Gayatri Balasamy", with eminent panelists including Adv. Pramod Nair, Dr. Jaya Vasudevan, Anind Thomas, and Vikas Mahendra.

Session #3

The Third Bangalore Legal Forum Panel Discussion was held on December 17, 2025 at the Bangalore International Centre on “Labour Reform in Contemporary India”. The session focused on unpacking the Four New Labour Codes, their structure, policy trajectory, and implications for workers, industry, and state regulation.

The Panellists included:

 

1. ​Veena Gopalakrishnan, Partner, Labour & Employment, Trilegal (Panelist);

2. Dr. Saurabh Bhattacharjee, Associate Professor of Law, NLSIU (Panelist);

3. Dr. Neethi P, Associate Professor, Social Sciences, Manipal Law School (Panelist);

4. Madhulika Tatigotla, Research Assistant, Centre for Labour Studies, NLSIU (Moderator).

The discussion closely engaged with the new Labour Codes, examining their structure, policy direction, and implications for workers, industry, and state regulation. It brought together doctrinal, policy, and socio-legal perspectives on questions of implementation, informality, and regulatory capacity. The Discussion was also followed by a Question-and-Answer session, where the audience could learn more about the Labour Codes.
